Seven weeks out from the August 8 Democratic Primary - with 41 days until Vote By Mail ballots arrive in mailboxes - and the race for Lieutenant Governor (Lt. Gov.) has turned red-hot. After Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke withdrew, Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami jumped in. Subsequently, State Representative Della Au Belatti withdrew from the Congressional House race (CD1). Indivisible Hawai'i is very interested in this race because the elected Lt. Governor is only a seat away from becoming Governor over the next four years and could be a leading candidate for Governor from 2031 through 2038. Therefore, Indivisible Hawai'i invited the three leading Democratic candidates - Mayor Kawakami, Representative Belatti, and John Choi - to participate in an endorsement process similar to what we recently concluded to endorse State Senator Jarrett Keohokalole for Congress (CD1) to replace Ed Case. Time is short to impact the Lt. Governor race, so we immediately shared our endorsement criteria - which include refusing dark money and Super PAC support - with the three candidates, and only Representative Belatti responded, confirming she fully supports the criteria. We also asked all three to participate in a virtual one-on-one town hall the week, and only Representative Belatti confirmed participation. Please join us to hear her plans for this key race - and tell us who you think we should endorse. Date & Time: Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Register here. Suffice it to say, there's a lot at stake in Hawai'i's Lt. Governor Primary race. Please plan to join us on Wednesday evening, or register and receive a recording of the interview, and then tell us what to do to support what's best for our Hawai'i. With Aloha, |
